First Bank of Nigeria, in its bid to extend market penetration beyond the shores of Nigeria, decided to extend to other sub-Saharan African countries. However, unlike other banks like GTB, ECOBANK and others, the name FirstBank could not be used in many of the markets, first because the bank is not the first in those markets, and secondly because of some conflicting slogans in some of the markets.
